AI Module Series FAQ's ....
What makes the AI Series modules unique?
Conventional Servo's are controlled by Pulse
Width Modulation.
The AI Series of modules uses a multi-dropped
serial network to
control each module, up to 31 AI Series modules can controlled
on a single serial channel.
- Conventional Servo's used for positioning applications,
generally have a positioning range of 180
degrees. The AI Series
of modules have a positioning range of 332
degrees. In addition
to this 5 speeds can be selected when positioning.
- Conventional Servo's are designed primarily
for positioning applications, irreversible
hardware modifications are required to allow a conventional servo
to rotate 360 degrees. The AI Series of modules can be programmed
to act as either a positioning or a variable
speed rotating device,
without any hardware modifications. The AI Series of modules allows
for 15 speeds to be selected when operating in rotating mode.
- The AI Series of modules has a programmable
Over-Current setting .
- The AI Series of modules provides
feedback,
via the serial channel, of both position and current.
- The AI Series of modules have a feature referred
to as Act Down mode. When in Act Down
mode all torque is removed from the internal motor and the position
is monitored. This allows the user to "teach" a
series of AI601 modules a movement sequence. (see an example)
- The AI Series of modules allows for the Proportional and
Differential Gains to be set for each module, allowing the
user to finely tune their overall control system
